Tomorrow, we will have our first test of the year. As a heads up, every test we take will mimic the AP Exam (multiple choice, free response). The test over the Global Contemporary Content Area will include 30 multiple choice questions. It will need to be completed by the end of the period tomorrow.
Today, we will do a quick review session using Kahoot! Click here for the link. A good reminder regarding the test tomorrow: every question corresponds to one of the Learning Objectives set forth by the AP College Board. You can always look at them under the Resources tab. This may give you a better understanding for the types of questions you can expect on the tests. Today, we will be finishing up our Global Contemporary Content Area by looking at some Contemporary Architects.
We will be looking at the three Video Artists in the Global Contemporary Content Area today: Bill Viola, Mariko Mori, and Nam June Paik
Tonight, choose one of the artists covered today and complete a Box Notes for their work. Continued working through (and ended up finishing!) the Contemporary Male Artists slideshow. Tonight, read the Khan Academy article over Song Su-nam's Summer Trees.
Tomorrow, we'll look at a few Video Artists, Wednesday we'll look at our Architecture works, and then we'll be finished. Thursday will be a review/study period and Friday will be the first Content Area test. Today we will begin looking at some of the Male Contemporary Artists. We should be able to get through Basquiat, Koons, and Shonibare.
We will finish up the Contemporary Female Artist slideshow today. Once you have finished, you will then complete two Box Notes over works of your choice. For your own sake, choose works that you don't feel 100% about---this will force you to learn all of the information necessary.
Yesterday, we finished looking at Faith Ringgold, and also looked at Wangechi Mutu and Kara Walker. We began to study the works of Jaune Quick-to-see Smith---we will be getting close to finishing up our subset of Female Contemporary Artists today---realistically, we'll probably finish tomorrow.
We finished looking at Cindy Sherman today, and also began looking at Faith Ringgold. Read the essay about her artwork, Dancing at the Louvre from Khan Academy.
Today we will be finishing up our slideshow on Public Art, and beginning to look at some of the Contemporary Female Artists. We looked at Pepon Osorio, Shirin Neshat, and were quickly introduced to Cindy Sherman.
Tonight, please read the Khan Academy essay regarding Cindy Sherman's Untitled #228. We'll finish discussing Sherman in class tomorrow as we will continue to look at some of the female artists. Today we continued looking at Public Art---we focused on Maya Lin's Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. These last couple days have been focused on only one artwork---I've been slowly easing you into the class. Pretty soon we'll start to pick up the pace a bit and cover multiple artworks/artists during a single class period.
We'll continue tomorrow by continuing to look at installations as artworks. Don't forget, you can always preview the works by going to the Content Areas tab at the top of this page. |
